barrett hocking n. a little about me
Barrett has been a professional musician since 2000. He moved to the Capital city from the mainland where he played Trumpet, Bass Guitar, Flugelhorn and Cornet as a Professional Musician for four years in the New Zealand Army Band based in Christchurch.
Throughout his time in the New Zealand music scene Barrett has performed in many groups and in many various styles around the country and the world, with such groups as the New Zealand Army Band, RNZAF Central Band, The Roger Fox Band, National Youth Orchestra, The Quintessential Quintet, National Brass Band of New Zealand, The Darren Watson King Size Blues Band, Thomas the Funk Engine and the Vector Wellington Orchestra.
In 2002, the Queens Golden Jubilee year, Barrett performed 21 concerts at the Edinburgh tattoo in Scotland with the New Zealand Army Band. Barrett has also had two trips to the prestigious British Open Brass Band Championships in Birmingham, England with Dalewool Auckland Brass and NZCT Woolston Brass from Christchurch. He has also won a Gold Medal with distinction at the World Music Concourse in Kerkrade, Holland with National Brass Band of New Zealand in late 2005.
Barrett has recently graduated with a Batchelor of Music, and is currently in his Honours year at the New Zealand School of Music, Wellington.
Not compromising one area, Barrett is versatile and is proven to be able to play in any musical style he so wishes.
