Barrett is a skilled and experienced musician with over a decade of professional experience under his belt. He has performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, New Zealand Army Band, RNZAF Central Band, The Roger Fox Big Band, National Youth Orchestra, The Quintessential Quintet, National Brass Band of New Zealand, The Darren Watson King Size Blues Band, Thomas the Funk Engine and all New Zealand’s major regional orchestras.

 

Barrett has a Batchelor of Music degree in Jazz Trumpet, an Honours degree in classical Trumpet, a Licentiate to the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM) and an Associate to the Trinity College London (ATCL) in performance trumpet. Barrett is currently in his final year of a Master of the Arts degree at the Royal Academy of Music, London, England.

 

Barrett is one of the most prolific brass players to have emerged from New Zealand in recent years. He gave his first concert at the tender age of seven in his community school band. After graduating from the New Zealand School of Music Barrett relocated to London to study at the Royal Academy of Music under James Watson, Mark David, Robert Farley and Rod Franks.

 

Since Barrett’s move to London he has played under Sir Colin Davis at Codogan Hall, performed with the Royal Academy Brass Soloists at Kings Place and has also recorded for BBC radio with the Manson Ensemble and the London Sinfonietta at the Queen Elizabeth Hall and toured the Middle East with the Choir of London.

 

Prizewinner of several competitions (Including the Royal Academy of Music United Music Publishers performance Prize in 2009) Barrett enjoys a varied career as an orchestral musician, Educator, or Jazz Musician. He has performed and toured with many orchestras and ensembles in many styles throughout the world in countries such as USA, Singapore, England, Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, China, The Middle East, Greece, Australia and New Zealand.
