A Timaru musician now living in the United Kingdom has been selected in the prestigious Choir of London Orchestra to tour the Middle East. Barrett Hocking is studying for a Masters Degree in classical trumpet at the Royal Academy of Music in London. He has been chosen as the principal trumpet player in the orchestra of 53 and choir of 84. The tour leaves London on June 9 and performs two weeks of concerts in Jerusalem, Ramallah and Nablus. It is the choir’s fourth big project in the region since 2004. The Choir of London projects aim to raise opportunities for people whose access to music would otherwise be limited, through music education projects, the performance of first-class live music, and the encouragement of musical collaborations.
