Barrett Hocking

Sevenoaks Symphony Orchestra

Stag Theatre - 3:00pm

This concert is covered by our Season Ticket scheme. Single tickets (£12, £11 concessions, £1 Under 16s) from the Stag Box Office (01732 450175) from 21st Oct 2009.

For our final concert of 2009 we have chosen the theme of dance, as depicted by different masters of orchestration, and including something rather different by way of a work with soloist.

Prokofiev: Suite No 1 from Romeo & Juliet
Fantastic rhythms and pungeant harmonies from one of the greatest ballet scores.

Debussy: Danses Sacrées et Profanes
Delightful impressionistic music - quieter than much of the music in this programme! We are delighted that the solo harp part will be played by one of Britain’s pre-eminent young musicians, Sally Pryce.

Saint-Saëns: Bacchanale
A touch of the exotic east, as envisaged by a Frenchman, in this piece from Samson and Delilah. Tuneful, and brilliantly orchestrated, as you’d expect from Saint-Saens

Bernstein: Symphonic Dances from West Side Story
Latin rhythms in pulsating music from Bernstein’s stage masterpiece. Listen to what a master orchestrator does with a big orchestra!

Rachmaninov: Symphonic Dances
The composer’s last work, embodying all that he’d learnt in writing his concertos and symphonies. Very colourful, with lovely passages for invdividual intruments. A rousing way to sign off for the year.
